Ghost Rider is a 15-year survey of photographer Aaron Stern’s pictures of Los Angeles. Starting in 2006, Stern used rental cars as mobile studios, shooting for sometimes 10 hours a day for weeks at a time, taking thousands of photographs and Polaroids. Stern explores how the landscape we choose for ourselves defines us—what does a life look like that is frayed at the edges? Through the open window of his car, he witnessed peril and empathy, as well as stories of reinvention, the pursuit of fame and wealth and those living on the fringes of society. Stern captures the voyeuristic tension between what is meant to be seen and what is not, while questioning the standard iconography of LA, from immaculately kept muscle cars in the driveways of working-class neighborhoods like North Hollywood to the towering palm trees.

For many years New York–based photographer Aaron Stern resisted taking pictures there—that is until the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. Over the course of 2020, he walked hundreds of miles, in no particular direction, trying to capture the haunting character of his city and the people in it throughout the crisis. The resulting 59 images in the photographic artist's book Madam, Nurses Run add up to a poetic visual statement on reckoning with hardship and loss in a post-truth world.

I Woke Up in My Clothes is a visual narrative from American photographer Aaron Stern (born 1978), whose images have appeared in such publications as Dazed & Confused, The New York Times T Magazine and L’Officiel Hommes. Capturing lost moments of intimacy and shattered landscapes ranging from Rockaway Beach after Hurricane Sandy to the empty lots on the outskirts of downtown Los Angeles, these photographs are the artist’s attempt to capture a world view that life consists of periods of positive connections that punctuate the isolation of modern existence and the inevitable decay that faces all human endeavor. Photographed on 35mm and medium-format film from 2007–2013, I Woke Up in My Clothes includes an introduction by Los Angeles writer Rich Appel and a poem from award-winning American poet David Wagoner--an existential hymn to impermanence and companionship.
