La Chola Poblete: Pop AndinoLa Chola Poblete: Pop Andino

Published by Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand/KMEC Books.
Edited by Adriano Pedrosa, Leandro Muniz. Text by Andrea Giunta, Agrippina R. Manhattan, La Chola Poblete, Leando Muniz.

Argentinian artist La Chola Poblete (born 1989) initially adopted the name Chola as an alter ego for performances and later as her identity. The term "chola" refers to women of Indigenous descent and originated as a racial slur in Peru and Bolivia, where the artist's ancestors came from. Poblete uses this narrative to deconstruct stereotypes produced about her community and history. Working across painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video and performance, her works frequently appropriate those of other artists, mixing patterns and characters that are sometimes also reproduced on the exhibition walls. This is La Chola Poblete's most comprehensive book and accompanies her exhibition at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP). With 140 images, three critical essays and the artist's manifesto, it is an indispensable publication for those interested in contemporary LGBTQIA+ and Latin American artists.
