From his large-scale environmental works of the 1960s to his two-color compositions of the 1970s, British painter Peter Joseph (1929–2020) developed his theory of color and proportion from his close study of Old Masters, classical architecture and American Abstract Expressionists such as Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko.
