| "Like every authentic oeuvre, the work of James Hyde has developed by threading its way around his various generic models. This has given rise to distinct instances; discrete works that mark an invisible totality, like a constellation of fragments that become visible against a dark night. Are these instances composed of elements of painting, sculpture, or are they the traces of an activity that is not yet defined. It is difficult to say. Each of these clusters of works can be marked by naming its type, each suggesting a common theme of possible interpretation." Excerpted from Catherine Perret's catalog essay, "Chop-Shop Painting", in James Hyde. | MONOGRAPHS & CATALOGS James HydeClth, 10 x 11.25 in. / 112 pgs / 84 color. | 2/28/2010 | In stock $40.00

| | | Published by Galerie Les Filles Du Calvaire. Text by Michael Luthy, Catherine Perret, Alexi Worth.James Hyde incorporates a range of materials into his abstract paintings, from unfinished 2 x 4s to velvet and Styrofoam blocks. He fashions these materials into paintings as giant pillows, chunky frescos and abstractions inhabiting photographic views. Saturated and playful, the pieces wryly reference Minimalism, Abstract Expressionism and color field painting. Three writers discuss aspects of his work.
