Between 2008 and 2009, British painter and social historian Nicola Green (born 1972) witnessed firsthand President Barack Obama’s journey to the White House. She documented his watershed campaign, election and inauguration over six trips across the United States, subsequently creating her acclaimed series of silkscreen prints, In Seven Days... (2010). Featuring seven gatefolds, this book examines Green’s seminal work in depth for the first time, contextualizing the project with photographs, sketches and other materials. In addition to a contribution by Obama himself, the volume features newly commissioned texts by other prominent voices in arts, culture and politics that explore the overarching themes of Green’s artwork: Light, Struggle, Hope, Change, Fear, Sacrifice/Embrace and Peace. A visual chronology details the artist’s biography, the works and the wider sociopolitical context to this pivotal moment in US history.
