| | | Published by Ridinghouse. Text by Tessa Jackson, Owen Sheers, Ann Jones.Tim Davies’s installations challenge power structures and question the effects of colonialism and globalisation. Representing Wales at the 54th Venice Biennale, this accompanying catalogue examines his artistic process.
Famously, Davies once returned a Victorian parquet floor to the rainforest of Belize where the wood was originally sourced and mined by slaves. His ongoing 'Cadet' series features Davies’ own hand-held video footage as he moves around ceremonies at war monuments throughout the UK, questioning the role of youth in war.
The catalogue focuses on the artist's new work for the Biennale, whilst examining the context of his previous works and process. Alongside 90 colour illustrations, the volume includes texts by Tessa Jackson, who presents an overview of Davies’s work; Owen Sheers who responds to Davies’s films and installations from a creative standpoint; and an interview with the artist by curators Tom Rowland and Ann Jones.
