Christian Wassmann book launch at Spoonbill Studio

Centered around the Sun Path House in Miami Beach (2015), this book, part monograph, part manifesto, presents projects originating from the interconnections of the arts, a love for geometry and an awareness of the cosmos. It draws parallels between ancient knowledge, current technologies and sustainable materials while highlighting sensibilities far beyond the visible. Throughout the publication, Wassmann seeks to communicate the symbiotic relationship between spirituality and self-expression, and its connection to nature to discover the many possibilities of architecture and design.

Dr. Daniel Sherer writes in his essay included in Sun Path House and Other Cosmic Architectures, "Wassmann’s approach effects a complex negotiation between architecture’s inside and outside, whether this is conceived in physical and spatial terms or in terms of wider natural and cosmic rhythms and their associated ideas and images."

DR. DANIEL SHERER (born 1963) teaches architectural history and theory at the Princeton School of Architecture (2018) and at the Yale School of Architecture (2008 to the present). He received his PhD from the Harvard University Department of the History of Art and Architecture in 2000. His areas of research include modern receptions of humanist architecture, Italian Renaissance and Baroque architecture, contemporary architecture, historiography and theory, and contemporary art, frequently in relation to architecture. He has published widely in European and American journals including Artforum, Perspecta, The Journal of Architecture, Giornale dell’Architettura, and Potlatch. Most recently he has curated the exhibition "Aldo Rossi: The Architecture and Art of the Analogous City," at Princeton SOA on view from 5 February to 30 March 2018.

CHRISTIAN WASSMANN (born 1974) began his career in Switzerland at the age of fifteen when he started an apprenticeship as an architectural draftsman. He studied interior architecture at the University of Art and Design in Zürich and architecture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. He has collaborated since 1997 with like-minded artists and architects, and in 2005 he established Studio Christian Wassmann in New York City. He received the Swiss Art Award in the architecture category in 2010, and in 2012 the Studio won the AIA New York New Practice Award. His design objects are represented by R&Company and Frederieke Taylor Gallery in New York City. Koenig Books published his first monograph and manifesto, Sun Path House and Other Cosmic Architectures, in 2017.

Please note that this event will be held at Spoonbill Studio at 99 Montrose Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11206.

Refreshments will be provided with a suggested donation.
