This book surveys the work of Welsh artist Richard Deacon (born 1949), spanning the 1970s to the present. It includes never-before-published photographs of Deacon's earliest performances, along with many images from the artist's personal archive, and also looks closely at his sculptural practice, where biomorphic forms emerge as a dynamic blend of poetic metaphor and physical experience.

FROM THE BOOK
"The costume was to consist of a suit and tool belt worn by the Performer and joined to the Performance area by the harness, preventing movement outside of that area but allowing freedom within it. The costume was to have a threefold function of signifying, equipping and protecting the Performer. The suit was a white boiler suit; the tool belt was canvas and sewn onto the boiler suit. It held a hammer, nails, a paintbrush, a pair of pliers, a saw, a screwdriver, a pair of scissors and a coil of wire."
