| | | CORY REYNOLDS | DATE 1/23/2018Few people can claim that they attended elementary school at an art museum! However, before the crimson-hued building at 22-25 Jackson Avenue became affiliated with The Museum of Modern Art, New York, it functioned as P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, and before that, P.S.1—Public School 1—for the children of Long Island City.
Through twenty-one coloring illustrations, the school’s history unfolds through word and image for the first time in Lorraine Passero’s "P.S.1: A School for the Centuries, Long Island City, New York." The unusual combination of history and coloring book, inspired by Passero's mother, Margaret (Capua) Passero, a P.S.1 graduate in 1934, focuses on the former elementary school's architecture and the neighborhood history of Long Island City, New York.
Please come color with us! Artist and author Lorraine Passero will be hosting as she passionately shares what she has discovered about P.S.1 in the MoMA PS1 Book Space on Saturday, January 27, from 2PM-4PM.
