LIMITED EDITIONS & BOOK SPECIALS - ONLY FOR FRIEZE NEW YORK
Stanley Whitney Limited Edition of Artist|Work|Lisson, published by Lisson Gallery. Edition of 10, each signed and numbered.
For this limited edition of 10 copies, Stanley Whitney has produced hand-drawn jackets (modified on both front and back) to cover Lisson Gallery's 1,200-page, fiftieth-anniversary compendium featuring work by more than 150 artists from over 500 exhibitions in London, Milan and New York.
Alighiero e Boetti, "Cieli ad alta quota," set of jigsaw puzzles with Sky Lines magazine, published by Austrian Airlines, 1993.
One set of six limited edition jigsaw puzzles by Alighiero e Boetti in a hand-made cardboard box, produced in 1993 for the art project "Cieli ad alta quota." Only a few copies remain of this rare multiple, which comes housed in a red cardboard slipcase. In addition to the six puzzles, the edition includes the issues of Sky Lines magazine where Boetti's works were reproduced. The idea was that passengers could request the images that were reproduced in the magazine in jigsaw form. Once assembled, the puzzles were the same dimensions as the folding tables installed on the airplane.
Marcel Dzama, Opposition and Sister Squares Reconciled, published by Salon Verlag & Edition, Cologne, 2011. Limited Edition of 300 with signed and numbered bookplate.
Dzama writes, "I have chosen to have Marcel Duchamp’s book, "Opposition and Sister Squares" re-printed quite simply because I love both Duchamp and chess. In its original printing, it didn’t fare too well selling-wise and Duchamp apparently had a closet full of the books which he gave to friends as gifts whenever they came over to his home. Regarding the book’s failure to sell, he has been quoted as saying: '… that the problem it poses only comes up once in a lifetime, even for chess masters.' I also like this quote by Ernst Strouhal: '"Opposition and Sister Squares'" is an artist's book for chess players and a chess book for artists.'"
Mike Kelley, Plato's Cave, Rothko's Chapel, Lincoln's Profile, New City Editions in association with Artists Space, 1986. First Edition, Out of Print.
Plato's Cave, Rothko's Chapel, Lincoln's Profile is a lengthy monographic essay by artist Mike Kelley chronicling his performance piece, Plato's Cave, Rothko's Chapel, Lincoln's Profile (featuring himself, Molly Cleator and Sonic Youth) from its inception to its premiere at New York's Artists' Space in December, 1986.
Gerhard Richter, Patterns, Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König, 2011. Edition of 200, signed and numbered.
In Patterns, Richter takes an image of his work, "Abstract Painting," and divides it vertically into strips: first 2, then 4, 8, 16… until the process has resulted in 8,190 strips. Each of these is reproduced here at the height of the original image. With each stage of division, the strips become progressively thinner. Each strip is mirrored and repeated, producing an incredibly detailed patterning. The number of repetitions increases with each stage of division in order to make patterns of consistent size. The resulting 221 patterns are reproduced here.
