Congratulations Badlands Unlimited: New Offices, New Flagship Outlet!

Badlands Unlimited—the always surprising and perfectly provocative small press founded in 2010 by artist Paul Chan—has taken the art publishing world by surprise yet again by opening a mini flagship retail outlet beneath their glamorous new offices on the lower east side.

Congratulations Badlands Unlimited: New Offices, New Flagship Outlet!

Nestled inside the invigorating host marketplace of the Y.P. 99¢ & Up Chinese bodega, the Badlands book section features eclectic classics like On Democracy by Saddam Hussein (a collection of three 1970s speeches written by the Iraqi dictator before he became President), Marcel Duchamp: The Afternoon Interviews (never-before-published source conversations between the artist and New Yorker writer Calvin Tomkins, conducted in 1964), The Best Most Useless Dress (the selected writings of poet, writer, critic, performer and new editor-in-chief of SFMOMA's Open Space, Claudia La Rocco), everybody's favorite Hippias Minor or The Art of Cunning (a new translation of Plato's most controversial dialogue) and, of course, the complete New Lovers series of erotic fiction, which T Magazine rightly coined "smutty books for smart people."

Congratulations Badlands Unlimited: New Offices, New Flagship Outlet!

Located at 24 Rutgers Street, in between a Chinese laundry and People's Environmental's non-Nigerian environmental assessment outpost, Y.oung P.ublisher 99¢ & Up is perhaps the most innovative and least pretentious bookstore pop-up in New York City.
