Sunday, April 14, 3-4:30 PM
1st Floor Lobby, MoMA PS1 Breaking new ground in ideas and materials, Heide Hatry's NOT A ROSE: A CONCEPTUAL ART PROJECT explores humanity's destruction of nature and its treatment of non-human animals. "Humans eat animals," says the artist. "The inedible or unexploitable parts are just thrown away. I use that garbage for my art and transform what we associate with disgust into objects of beauty." Join ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 for a discussion of the meaning of flowers and the ethics of art and animals with artist Heide Hatry, who will be joined by Avital Ronell, Steven Pinker, Dale Jamieson, Linda Weintraub, and moderator Thyrza Nichols Goodeve. The discussion will be accompanied by a reading by Shonni Enelow of Lucy Lippard's contribution to the project—in honor of Lippard's birthday (April 14, 1937) and her great achievements in art and activism—as well as the premier of an excerpt from the documentary film "Not a Rose," by London Consortium TV.
Exhibition at STUX Gallery in NYC from May 23 - June 22.
