William Eggleston's Guide

Mounted in 1976, William Eggleston's Guide was the first one-man show of color photographs ever presented at The Museum of Modern Art, New York; it changed the world's perception of color photography forever. The small, assertive accompanying catalog is now considered one of the most important American photobooks ever published, alongside Robert Frank's 1958 The Americans and Aperture's 1972 Diane Arbus monograph. All three books are on view today through February 7 at the National Gallery of Art in the exhibition From the Library: Photobooks After Frank.
