Located at MoMA PS1, one of the world’s leading contemporary arts institutions, ARTBOOK’s mission is to offer the most relevant publications in contemporary arts and culture. The internship position holds potential for those interested in gaining an understanding of the various roles that a museum bookshop plays, including its providing an educational context for visitors, fulfilling sales at museum events, and acting as a platform for museum publications.

Prior ARTBOOK interns have gone on to work at publishing houses, museums, galleries, magazines and record labels.

SPECIAL PROJECT INTERNSHIP, SUMMER 2017



ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 Bookstore & Magazine Store is accepting applications for 4 Special Project Internships for the summer of 2017. The Special Project Interns will work as part of a team on the design, construction, installation, and launch of the bookstore's expanded new space at MoMA PS1.

Internship Description
The ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 SPECIAL PROJECT Internship requires a 2 or 3 day a-week, 4 month commitment beginning May 7th, 2017 and running through August 31, 2017.

Interns will be part of a team project and assist with:
  • Planning the layout of the new space
  • Designing special new fixtures for the store, including a children's island and a salon space
  • Constructing new shelving and display units
  • Configuring and installing the new fixtures
  • Shelving and displaying books in the new store
  • Writing and designing shelf and wall graphics
  • Planning and implementing the launch events for the store

Qualifications and Requirements
Required Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team on a large project
  • Basic experience in woodwork, architecture, construction, or art installation and basic knowledge of operating and working with power tools
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office programs on Mac-platforms
  • Ability to multi-task and to balance short- and long-term projects

A Strong Candidate:
  • Has experience or strong interest in architecture, furniture design and fabrication, space-planning or theater set design and installation
  • Is passionate about publishing, art, and museums
  • Enjoys working as part of a team to accomplish a mission

Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship program. School credit and community service hours are available to qualified applicants. All accepted into the ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 Special Project Internship will be gifted art books upon completion of the internship.

ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 Bookstore & Magazine Store seek a highly motivated individual with knowledge of and interest in contemporary art and culture for its Summer 2017 Internship Program.

Job Description
ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 Summer 2017 Internship requires a 2-day-per-week, 4- month commitment beginning May 1st, 2017 and running through August 31, 2017.

Intern will acquire and refine the following skills:
• Experience the role of the bookstore within the larger context of a contemporary arts institution
• Ability to assist with special events programming (book launches and signings)
• Ability to contribute content for social media and customer outreach efforts
• Ability to contribute focused research on publications related to specific artists and publishers for upcoming exhibitions and museum programming (such as MoMA PS1 Sunday Sessions, the 2017 Young Architects Program, and the MoMA PS1 Warm Up performance series)
• Day-to-day tasks will include customer service, inventory management, shipping, submission review, and archiving.

Qualifications and Requirements
Required skills:

• A strong command of reading and writing in English
• Fluency with Microsoft Office programs on Mac-platforms
• Ability to multitask, and to balance short and long-term projects
• Is comfortable interacting with the public in store and over the phone

A strong candidate:
• Has an interest in the arts and wants to learn more about contemporary art, books, and magazines
• Has a background or interest in writing, editing, and/or research
• Has experience managing social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook)
• Has experience using the Adobe Creative Suite
• Shows initiative and self-motivation
