Esopus

Esopus is a twice-yearly arts magazine featuring fresh, unmediated perspectives on contemporary culture from a wide range of creative professionals. It includes artists’ projects, critical writing, fiction, poetry, visual essays, interviews, and, in each issue, a themed CD of new music. Published by the non-profit Esopus Foundation Ltd, the magazine has a simple mission: to provide an unfiltered, non-commercial space in which creative people and the public can connect in meaningful, productive ways.
TAKE-AWAYS: REMOVABLE INSERTS FROM ESOPUS, an exhibition currently on view at Esopus Space, features 136 inserts from all of the issues of Esopus published to date, including the hard-to-find first seven sold-out editions. These include facsimile reproductions of business cards, license plates, strips of film negative, and pieces of correspondence; audio CDs; and even 3-dimensional sculptures. A number of the items in the show are components of artists' projects from past issues, ranging from John Baldessari's "Foot and Stocking Series, 2010" (a series of six 7" x 11.5" images in Esopus 14) to Richard Misrach's "Untitled, 2005," a 16" x 35" poster from Esopus 5. Exhibition runs through October 18th.
