| Essays by Meta Knol and Wouter Prins. Text by Italo Calvino. Published by ArtimoCry Out for Joy, You Lower Parts of the Earth is published on the occasion of Karin van Dam's 2005 exhibition, Van Doesburg/Van Dam, at the Central Museum in Utrecht. At the center of this show is Van Dam's critically acclaimed work, Trading Cities (on which the artist worked for nine years). Trading Cities is a collection of assemblages that creates the impression an imaginary city. Van Dam placed this work next to gouaches and pencil drawings of Dutch avant-garde artist, Theo van Doesberg in order to highlight the link between her work and his in the way they both explore space, and create layers from complex collages.
