Mimmo PaladinoMimmo Paladino

Published by Skira.
By Germano Celant.

This publication is an attentive analysis of the work of Mimmo Paladino, one of the most innovative and established contemporary artists in the world.

This book covers his entire oeuvre from 1963 to 2015 and his role in renewing painting that, after including environmental interventions, shifted to photography and sculpture, architecture and cinema, opera and theater.

The publication is also full of memories and poetry and a comprehensive iconographic section enriched by previously unpublished material regarding different periods of his life as an artist. It is a thorough view of the many artistic languages Paladino adopted to express his vision on the relationship between memory and the present.

Germano Celant is an art historian, critic, and theorist known for his theories on Arte Povera. In 1987, he received the Frank Jewett Mather Award. He has been director of the Fondazione Prada in Milan since 1995, and he became its Artistic and Scientific Conservator in 2015.

Sculpture 1980-2008

Published by Skira.
By Enzo di Martino.

With over 400 sculptures, this volume documents the entire plastic work of a major protagonist of contemporary art. Alongside painting, sculpture is a fundamental part of the work of Paladino, who is considered one of the most well-known representatives of the Transavanguardia. Theorized in 1980, this movement immediately stood out as one of the most significant tendencies of Post-modernism, challenging the artistic experimentalism of previous decades and advocating a return to more traditional expressive practices. The catalogue is divided into sections: individual sculptures, installations, relationship between sculpture and architecture, and project work in urban spaces. The research and documentation for all the works are by Enzo Di Martino, who is also the author of the historical-critical essay in the volume. The preface is written by Friedhelm Mennekes, the well-known German art historian.

Art critic Enzo Di Martino has curated major exhibitions in museums in Italy and abroad. His most important books include Flying the Flag for Art (with Philip Rylands) (1993), and Mimmo Paladino l’opera grafica (2001).

Mimmo Paladino

Published by Charta.
Edited by Flavia Scotton and Enzo Di Martino. Introduction by Umberto Vattani.

This extensive collection of sculptures by painter, sculptor and printmaker Mimmo Paladino, including some of his most significant work, makes a case for sculpture as the great public art of the twenty first century. Paladino, who is well aware that art is rooted in history, suspects that sculpture may be the only medium brawny enough to compete with the expansive scale of contemporary architecture that dominates today's urban environment. The work included here does not tolerate indifference, nor does it strive for acceptance or complacency--Paladino's extraordinary ability to transfigure materials, and his belief in their power, sets a solid, true course.

Mimmo Paladino's paintings are filled with the signs and intimations of his self-devised universe. Like a hypothetical manual in the manner of Leonardo, Zenith draws together art, mathematics, science, architecture and alchemy.
