Essay by Rob Tufnell. Published by Walther König, KölnScottish artist Jim Lambie's involvement in the Glasgow music scene has considerable influence on his work. Like music, visual art can fill a space and change the way we perceive our surroundings as well as ourselves. It can produce altered states of mind. Using vibrantly colored tapes that follow the contours of a room, Lambie's installations transform and energize gallery spaces. Voidoid also showcases the artist's 3-dimensional works made from vinyl records, inserts, and record players, as well as his Psychedelicsoulsticks, composed of multicolored thread, bamboo, and small objects like Buddhas or broken pieces of ceramics.
