| Text by Oskar Bätschmann, Regine Heß, Pia Müller-Tamm, Astrid Reuter. Published by Richter VerlagIn moist, glossy swirls and chunks of impasto dough, Swiss artist Pia Fries (born 1955) blends painting with collage and silkscreen, often creating dialogues with older printed matter. Here she engages the legacy of the Marchioness Karoline Luise (1723-83), who produced a red pigment from the Krapp plant.

| Text by Christine Buci-Glucksmann, Camille Morineau. Published by Walther König, KölnFor the 14 diptychs that comprise the Merian's Surinam series, Swiss painter Pia Fries (born 1955) uses reproductions by the painter and botanical illustrator Maria Sybilla Merian (1647–1717). Merian's images of plants, flowers, animals and insects are elaborated upon with oil paint, from thin to thick impasto, and with varying degrees of obscuration, to establish an open and playful dialogue between the two women.

| Text by Paul Good, Dave Hickey, Heinz Liesbrock, Dieter Schwarz. Published by Richter VerlagPia Fries combines a gluttonous love of thick paint with an energetic pleasure in driving it across the picture plane, so that one paint cluster leads or smears into another. More recently she has begun to deploy collage elements, heightening this 'pinball' method of composition in which paint dialogues with print. Dave Hickey writes of Fries' painting that "their exuberance promises the comforts of expression and delivers the randomized, chemical residue of industrial culture." This beautifully made volume from Richter surveys the Swiss-born painter's works from 1990 to 2007, and is therefore the broadest overview of her sensuous art to date.

| Essays by Hans Brandli, Bernd Finkeldey, and Valeria Liebermann. Published by Richter VerlagEverything narrative in the work of Swiss painter Pia Fries is eliminated so that she can concetrate on her central preoccupation, color. In her process, this former student of Gerhard Richter uses a variety of working methods: she rolls, drops, kneads, drips, and layers masses of color, creating a combination of color and texture that is remarkable compelling.
