| | | Jean Prouvé & Pierre Jeanneret: BCC Demountable House
 Jean Prouvé and Pierre Jeanneret's BCC Demountable House is part of the series of projects initiated in 1939 that center on the construction principle of the axial portal frame, created by Prouvé in 1938. The several examples of this small wooden building that were produced between 1941 and 1943 (during extreme wartime conditions) emphasize the two men's rare ability to adapt to constrained circumstances.
Featured image is captioned, "The use of the axial portal frame gave Pierre Jeanneret enormous freedom in organizing the interior layout. Working from design studies carried out with Le Corbusier in the 1920s, he allowed family life to flow freely around the 'fireside nook.' Openwork sliding partitions divided up the interior, which was extended outdoors as a covered terrace. The houses at Saint-Auban were equipped with furnishings designed by Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand and henceforth made by BCC. |
