|   |   | THE PRESS OF THE NOVA SCOTIA COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGNMicah Lexier: I’m Thinking of a NumberEdited and with Introduction by Jan Peacock. Foreword by Garry N. Kennedy. Text by Christina Ritchie, AA Bronson.
Canadian artist Micah Lexier has built an international reputation working in a variety of media, often making work with numerical themes, such as 1995's "Self-portrait as a Lucite Cube Divided Proportionally a (Red) Volume Representing Life Lived and a (Clear) Volume Representing Life to Come, Based on Statistical Life Expectancy." Over the past three decades, he has also produced a significant body of multiple materials to be distributed to viewers, including prize ribbons, printed balloons, custom-minted coins and individually numbered cards. Micah Lexier: I'm Thinking of a Number is a survey of the artist's invitations, posters, book works, T-shirts, boxed sets and other multiples produced between 1980 and 2010. It includes a multiple created by the artist for this publication--a letterpress sheet of four stickers tipped in as the final work itemized by the monograph.

| | | FROM THE BOOK"Numbers as quantities, as expressions of proportion or relation, as measurements of time--even as graphic signs--have had a prominent role in Micah Lexier's production over the entire course of his career. It seems logical, then, that works produced in number should have a central position in his practice. Indeed, within Lexier's oeuvre, the usual attributes of ephemera--informal, contingent, supplementary--are often employed in these pieces as key elements of the project or exhibition they announce; or, in many cases, are formally realized as artworks in their own right. Insofar as many of his works are operations upon numbers, so the form in which they are realized often reflects this numerical ordering, accomplishing a seamless reciprocity of content and form. For someone with such a clean, minimalist design sensibility, there is an orderliness to these works that is very satisfying." Christina Ritchie, excerpted from I'm Thinking of a Number. | | ART BOOKS & MUSEUM EXHIBITION CATALOGS: FORTHCOMING AND RECENT RELEASES | | D.A.P.ISBN: 9781636812991 USD $60.00 | CAN $86Pub Date: 6/18/2024 Forthcoming
